Hello, I'm Armin. I think Shiro probably told you I would be calling. He told me you are having a problem with a Poliwag?

[Newt opens the feed. She's sitting down against a large Growlithe. Looking him over for a moment she blinks.]

Oh. I think I talked to you before. You're from a really bad world too.

[Newt that is not how you say hi. However Ripley pokes her slightly with her nose and she nods.]

I mean yes. ....my Shinx caught one by mistake. I think he was trying to be nice and bring me a gift. Only I don't want to keep pokemon who don't want to be on my team and I don't think the Poliwag really does. So I called Shiro for advance.

.....you're interested in looking after the Poliwag? Shiro said you'd be a good owner, and I trust him a lot.

Yes, I am. I really like Water-types, but I haven't had a chance yet to catch a Poliwag.

Shiro said the same thing about you. He said you take really good care of your pokemon.

[And like her, Armin trusts in Shiro's opinion a lot.]

[Oh, that was nice of him. Newt nods firmly.]

Of course I do. They're family. I want everyone to be safe and happy and get along. We look after each other.

[Newt is the "leader" but every pokemon she has is special to her and part of her group/family.]

[That is excellent to hear. Armin was already willing to trust her based on Shiro's opinion, but her words just confirmed that he is doing the right thing.]

I'm not sure if Shiro told you, but I also have a Pokemon I am trying to find a new home for.

[She thinks back to what Shiro said.]

He said you had a pokemon who was ...giving you an issue. And that they might work better with me. When I asked what he meant about trading.

What kind of pokemon are they?

It's Phobos, my Eevee. He's a very sweet and gentle Pokemon, but he's also got somewhat of an anxious nature and needs a lot of attention. I've been hoping he might grow out of his fears, but so far there has been no luck.

I wouldn't mind if this just meant that he isn't a battle pokemon. I don't need each of my pokemon to be fighters. The issue is more that he needs a lot of attention and support. And as much as I'd love to be able to give that to him, I'm starting to feel I'm not able to give him that.

[Between the Lapras pod and his personal studying and the places he still wants to visit, he's running short on time.]

He'd fit in with my team. I'm scared of things a lot too. And a few of my pokemon were either nervous at first or still are shy around people. Ripley's really good at making everyone feel safe and I won't let anything bad happen to them if I can stop it.

[Newt is super protective of them. She's at least somewhat gotten over the idea that they're going to die on her.]

Did anything bad happen to him and is he scared of anything? Things, I mean. Like, I'm afraid of eggs.

[Eggs? A strange fear, but Armin is not going to ask. There must be some reason for it.]

Not that I can think of. I am the one who hatched him, and he's always been like this.

[Which is part of what had made it so difficult. With Nemesis, there had been a specific cause to tackle, but with Phobos, it seems a more general thing.]

Well, he's terrified of crowds. He does all right in a small group and is most relaxed with it's just him and me, but crowds he can't handle at all. He usually tried to run away and he ends up lost. [Which is something she should really look out for.] He also doesn't really do well with big and loud Pokemon. Whenever there are really boisterous Pokemon around, he usually tries to hide beneath my bed.

[There is a very good reason behind it. It is the reason behind all her fears. Xenomorphs.]

[She listens closely to his advice.]

Okay. That makes sense. I'll introduce him to the rest of the team slowly so he doesn't get scared of too many of them at once. And keep him out of crowds when we travel. Also I don't like open spaces either so we usually find small places to sleep or stay. Where it's safer.

[Like under the bed. Which is the only place to be really safe when you sleep and no she still hasn't shaken that belief. She thinks for a moment.]

Dependable is a bit energetic but I usually have her out when she has places to run around and Jonesy would have been a problem, even if he is small, but he's better about things now that we talked through someone. So he understands why people are scared of things.

I think Phobos will be okay here. But I'll keep an eye on him and make sure he fits in with everyone. I think there's a few he might get along with.

I'd like that. I really wish I could keep taking care of him myself, but I don't think that is fair to him. He needs more than I can give him right now.

And, if you want, I could do the same for you. I know you didn't exactly catch that Poliwag, but if you want to know how it gets along, I wouldn't mind keeping you updated.

I'll take good care of him. I promise.

[She says this with a seriousness that most kids wouldn't put behind that. Newt has...issues with promises. She never says them unless she really, really means them. And breaking one is horrific to her.]

Do you have any plans for where you are going to be? If possible, I'd like to trade them in person. I think that would be easier for Phobos.

[He'll be preparing him beforehand, of course. But still, there is a big difference between gently being handed over and getting some time to adjust and just suddenly waking up in some other computer box.]

Oh that's a good idea. I'll be in ....Mahogany Town. That would be a good place.

I'm leaving for Johto in a day or two, so I can meet you there.

[And really, he's never seen Lake Rage before. Might be time to pay a little visit.]

Okay. I'll be there. Where do you want to meet?

I think a quiet place is probably best. Somewhere where there are not a lot of other pokemon or people around. Maybe in a park or a bit up the road towards Lake Rage?

Up the road a bit sounds good.
